裴多菲(Sandor Petofi，1823—1849)，原名为Alexander Petrovics，是匈牙利的爱国诗人和英雄，也是匈牙利民族文学的奠基人，资产阶级革命民主主义者。他出生于当时社会的最底层，父亲是屠户，母亲是农奴。少年时期, 他经历过流浪生活，做过演员，当过兵。1842年，他开始写作生涯;1844年，他出版了第一本诗集。讽刺诗《农村的大锤》和革命诗歌《爱国者之歌》、《反对国王》等令裴多菲蜚声诗坛。1846年底，他整理诗稿，准备出版诗歌全集，并在自序中写下著名箴言诗《自由与爱情》，成为诗人走向革命的标志，也是他向革命迈进的誓言。
1849年，裴多菲在与沙俄军队作战时牺牲，年仅26岁，身后留下22岁的妻子和1岁半的'幼子。他一生中写下了800多首抒情诗和8部长篇叙事诗，此外还有80多万字的小说、政论、戏剧和游记，且有相当部分在战火中完成。

In I had the worst year of my life.

A reader in Florida, apparently bruised by some personal experience, writes in to complain, “If I steal a nickel's worth of merchandise, I am a thief and punished; but if I steal the love of another's wife, I am free.”

This is a prevalent misconception in many people's minds---that love, like merchandise, can be “stolen”. Numerous states, in fact, have enacted laws allowing damages for “alienation of affections”.
